Well we dusted off the ol' Suggestions Box we keep in the office and found that folks are looking for a quick and easy way to sample the best of the best of some of our artists, something that will sift through some rather large catalogs for them and put together one hell of a playlist.
We obey your commands.
Thus, we have launched "Choice Cuts"---a series of digital only compilations that cull 12 tunes from some of our artists in one easy to swallow package at one even easier to swallow price. They are available only on iTunes.
So, whether you are looking to explore some heretofore unknown music, something you might have missed, or desirous of having a concise collection by an artist you already love, Choice Cuts is for you.
To kick it off, we've released
The Waco Brothers (Volume One)
On September 8th, renowned taco palace Big Star (1531 N. Damen) are launching a festival called the Dust Up.
Several bands, including our own Andre Williams & the Goldstars, will be playing, AND there will be a record fair and DJs with us and some other local labels providing the goods.
C'mon by. The fun starts at noon with the DJs, then music at 4pm.

As we like to say, "we release a lot of good music, but we can't release ALL the good music."
Some former compadres (well, they'll ALWAYS be compadres...that's what makes this job so great) who have moved on to other labels have released a bundle of new music this month. Being dorky fans, we wanted to let you know about them, as well as offer them up on our site. So, dig in to the new tunes by some old faves:
KELLY HOGAN: I Like To Keep Myself In Pain
ALEJANDRO ESCOVEDO: Big Station
ANDRE WILLIAMS & THE SADIES: Night & Day
AND check out the sale going on this month for catalog items from these artists. So, if you are new to the HOGAN/ANDRE/ALEJANDRO camps you can pick up some great music for some friendly prices all through June.
Also new is the LIMITED EDITION LP of Ha Ha Tonka's killer debut album. You asked, you pleaded, some have even made veiled threats....so HERE it is. But act fast, we only made 500 of these.
Flea Market Funk has just pulled a killer interview from 2006 with Andre Williams out of their archives.
Andre waxes about Stevie Wonder in the studio, getting fired by Barry Gordy. 5 times. They were the Billy Martin and George Steinbrenner of the R&B world.
It's a great read and a fine kick off to the Andre release week of his new album.

What's up in the world of Andre, you ask?
--Well, we've got his new album on pre-sale (pre-sale includes a snazzy poster AND gets you entered in a drawing for autographed goodies),
--We've put his back catalog on sale
--AND we've constructed a BEST OF Playlist for your listening pleasure (it's even got some of the new tracks on it). So, in this month of Valentine's, what better time to get down with 'Dre?
Speaking of Valentine's Day, don't forget to check out our BLOGPOST with BS staff and artists chiming in on love songs, both fer and agin'....

Andre Williams is opening for Justin Townes Earle on Memorial at Chicago's Millennium Park.
We look forward to Mr Rhythm singing "Jailbait" and who knows what else in front of thousands of possibly unsuspecting Chicagoans. The potential for weirdness is quite high.
Enjoy THIS interview with the Man himself, which includes several videos, the Blues Brothers, Lawrence Fishburne as Ike Turner, and quotations such as this, when asked about his inspiration for writing "Shake a Tail Feather": "OK, since you asked that question, I knew there had to be a way to say, "Come on, and shake your ass."
In July, Andre went home to Detroit to play in a big fancy room in front of a lot of fancy people for the 210 Detroit Concert of Colors.
Check out THIS video of him doing his classic "Bacon Fat." Included in his band are Matthew Smith (Volebeats, Outrageous Cherry, producer of Andre's last album), Don Was, and Dennis Coffey of the Funk Brothers (check out that wailing solo...)
The video and audio on these are super pro. ENJOY!
What state of our fine union comes to mind when you think of true bad ass soul? That's right, UTAH!
Andre is hitting Utah for the first time ever and we look forward to hearing about what sort of cultural earthquakes he may set off. Check out THIS incredible picture and article in Salt Lake City's local alt-paper the Slug.
"Andre Williams plays the kind of music that SLUG magazine is proud to get behind. Down and dirty, completely authentic & 100% original, a real soul rebel, his obscurity is almost baffling."
We swear, Andre gets more action than all of us put together.
P.S. We have absolutely NO idea why Mark Pickerel is lurking in the background.
Mr Rhythm is hitting the road in August and early September .
To help spread the word about his latest slab 'o' soul, some buddies at retail are coming through with some goodies for YOU, including chances to score free tickets to the shows. So, if you're in any of the of cities below, considered yourself tipped off...
SALT LAKE CITY (8/16): Slowtrain Records has the record on sale, on a listening post and giving away a pair of tickets to the show
AUSTIN (8/20): End of an Ear has the record on sale, giving away posters with purchase and running a contest to win a pair of tickets.
CINCINNATI (9/9): Shake It Records has the record on sale, giving away posters with purchase and running a contest to win a pair of tickets.
It's got some swank photos of 'Dre at his South Side Chicago home, hit hat collection, and some embedded videos of "Twine Time," "Bacon Fat" and "Jail Bait." Gives some context to his long, wild and weird career and its enduring impact.
