Misra

New Spineriders Release

When Jason Molina (Songs: Ohia, Magnolia Electric Co) suddenly passed away in the Spring of 2013, he left behind an incredible body of work.

In tribute to his spirit, Misra Records has released his high school band's music ON CASSETTE!!  It's a VERY limited edition release and all proceeds go to the Musicians Emergency Medical Association.  We've just a few available for you.

Read THIS amazing remembrance of Jason and those times by his friend Reilly Lambert

SHEARWATER announces tour with DINOSAUR JR

Shearwater, who used to record for our sister label Misra, just announced a fall tour with alt-rock godheads Dinosaur Jr.

That's one crazy good double bill.

Their recent release on Sub Pop Animal Joy, prompted the release of their classic Winged Life on LP for the first time this spring.

See the dates HERE

NEW RELEASES FROM BS AFFILIATES

We're offering up a few new releases by other folks we think you should check out and you might have missed.

From our associate label Misra Records, there's the long awaited vinyl LP release of the classic Shearwater album Winged Life.

Also from Misra, Cleveland's Bears new release Greater Lakes, including a very limited edition LP on CLEAR vinyl.

Finally, a release from a Chicago mainstay and general good guy Lawrence Peters (perhaps he's poured you a drink at the Hideout?).  His band Lawrence Peters Outfit self-released a CD/LP What You Been Missin'.  This ain't in many stores and we are big fans of his hardcore honky tonk, so we're carrying it here and hope you give it a listen.

INAUGURAL MISRA/BLOODSHOT RELEASE!

A couple months ago, we told you about our new distribution partnership with Misra Records, a like-minded label with moxie and some cool bands.

Well, today we've got the first fruits of our coming together: Southeast Engine's new CD Canary.

The kind words are already rolling in:

“You like The Band? Wilco? Okkervil River? Well if you like them, chances are you’ll dig Southeast Engine…It’s one of the best roots-rock albums of 2011 so far.” – Bruce Warren, WXPN, NPR

And the band is on tour.

We hope you'll agree, that this is the beginning of a fun and creative ride.

Bloodshot would like to announce the beginning of two new, exciting relationships.

Effective immediately, Bloodshot is the exclusive distributor of  the re-launched, artist-run record label Misra Records. The Durham, NC-based indie has previously released music from the likes of Phosphorescent, Great Lake Swimmers, Shearwater, Centro-Matic, Destroyer, and many other exceptional up-and-comers.

We've been fans for a while and have been quite taken by their feisty outlook, their conviction, their deep love of music and their scrappy dedication to their artists. They kinda remind us of, well, us.

To celebrate their rebirth as an artist-operated company, Misra is releasing a free artist-curated compilation entitled Misra Legacy Compilation Volume I, celebrating veteran acts (such as the aforementioned) as well as the more current fare (The Black Swans, Hallelujah the Hills, and more), side by side. Download the whole thing for free by going the to label site.

Additionally, we are pleased to announce that we have signed artist Lydia Loveless to the label roster.  Blessed with a blast-it-to-the-back-of-the-room voice, the 20 year old native of Columbus, OH combines country classicism with punk rock candor--sometimes within the same song. Look for her debut Bloodshot release in the fall of 2011.

As her first appearance as an official Bloodshot artist, Lydia will be performing on February 20th at North Star Bar in Philadelphia, PA at our Philly Brew Bash, along with new labelmates Eddie Spaghetti (new album Sundowner released on 2/15), Whitey Morgan and the 78's, and Jon Langford . Tickets are available for the event HERE.

Stay tuned as we get the website up to date with photos, bios, music and more so we can, hopefully, get you as excited as we are with our new family members.
