SXSW Scrapbook Published

Wanted to pass along info on a new book just published by UT Press. It's the SXSW Scrapbook: People and Things That Went Before.

SXSW Scrapbook takes a long look back at many years of highlights as South by Southwest celebrates its twenty-fifth edition in 2011. Those who were there share stories about how it all got started; memorable performances by major artists including Johnny Cash, the Black Eyed Peas, Iggy Pop, the Dixie Chicks, and the Flaming Lips; countless up-and-coming acts that got a leg up in their careers by playing SXSW; Sunday softball tournaments with Doug Sahm as championship-game announcer; goodie-bags decorated by renowned illustrators from Mike Judge to Daniel Johnston; and the convention's eventual expansion beyond music to include a film festival and an interactive media component.

The book includes numerous photos, plus essays from SXSW staffers and participants including Dave Marsh, David Fricke, Jim DeRogatis, Ed Ward, Michael Corcoran, and even JON LANGFORD and Bloodshot's own Il Capo Rob Miller—a delightful little tale about how he and Ryan Adams cemented the deal for Heartbreaker in the men's room of Antone's!

So, if you've ever wondered what you are missing in Austin every year, or if you want to piece together your fuzzy memories of your times there, this book is for you.

DANBERT RELEASES AN ILLUSTRATED FAIRY TALE BOOK!

… In only the way Danbert Nobacon could release an illustrated fairy tale book! 3 DEAD PRINCES: An Anarchist Fairy Tale is set to be released on September 1. Filmmaker Alex Cox illustrates the story. Keep an eye out for a book tour in the fall!

Here's a sneak peek:

Princess Stormy lives in a semi-detached castle with her family and a Fool. When an unhappy neighboring kingdom decides to invade, Stormy must go on her quest, meeting giant Cats, Mermangels, Giggle Monkeys, a Gricklegrack, and Flying Lizards on the way. Oh, and she kills three princes. But that's by accident, and anyway it's their own fault ...
