Last summer our best drinking buddies at FEW Spirits in neighboring Evanston, Illinois used their magic boozy powers to cook up an out-of-this-world Blue Corn bourbon whiskey for Sarah Shook & the Disarmers. At the release party we made friends with FEW's neighbors across the street, Sketchbook Brewing, good folks making unique, varied, and delicious beer. And the rest, well, we'll let them take it from here...
When Chicago indie label Bloodshot Records concocted a Blue Corn Bourbon with our neighbors at FEW Spirits, we couldn't help but steal those barrels, roll them down the street, and brew a delicious Belgian Style Dubbel to fill them.
Defiant Roots is where soft caramel, cherry, and raisin notes mix, mingle, and mutate (like the many musical genres in the Bloodshot wheelhouse) with the flavors of charred oak and whiskey barrel spiciness.
And now it's time to tap the beer! The brew will be released on draft and in cans at a special release party at the Sketchbook taproom on February 24th, with performances by Jon Langford & John Szymanski, and our friends Half Gringa (as heard on our 25th anniversary album Too Late to Pray: Defiant Chicago Roots).
Get your tickets here and come hoist a pint (or three or four) with us!
