(Evanston, Ill.) OCTOBER 17, 2016—Award-winning craft distillery FEW Spirits and iconic Chicago independent record label Bloodshot Records have joined forces once again, this year for a limited-edition gin. The new Bloodshot Records Insurgint Gin features dazzling wafts of blood orange, flavorful heat-but-not-hot notes of guajillo peppers, and the familiar nip of juniper. The botanical recipe was developed by FEW Spirits master distiller Paul Hletko and the Bloodshot staff. This gin is truly unique, uniquely bold yet smooth, and it comes just in time for autumn. The spicy and warm nature of Insurgint Gin is ideal for your favorite fall cocktails, or by itself on the front porch.
In the summer of 2015, Bloodshot first teamed up with FEW to create the exclusive Bloodshot's Small Batch Bourbon to honor the milestone of Bloodshot’s 21st birthday. The blend was also curated by Hletko and the Bloodshot Records staff, and launched with a live music event at the distillery. The 500 coveted bottles flew off the shelves, and the barrels that had held the spirit were then used by Lagunitas Brewing Company to make the special Lagunitas Bloodshot FEW Brew. Needless to say, the project was a success.
These days, no one passes up the opportunity to follow success with a sequel, so this year FEW and Bloodshot put their collective heads together to develop a new collaborative spirit. But this time, it’s gin.
"We at FEW love working with the amazing creative talent at Bloodshot Records,” Hletko says. "Our Insurgint Gin this year is something special, with the bright blood orange peel and smoky guajillo peppers matching up for a unique gin, and one that only Bloodshot and FEW could pull off!”
Only about 350 bottles—all hand-bottled by members of the FEW Spirits and Bloodshot Records staff—will be available in select stores and bars in Chicago. Two celebratory release events will be held: the first will be at Delilah’s at 2771 N. Lincoln Ave. in Chicago on Wednesday November 2nd, 2016 at 9PM. The second will be at the FEW Spirits Tasting Room at 918 Chicago Avenue in Evanston on Saturday, November 5th from noon until 4PM. Tastings and special cocktails will be served while Bloodshot DJs provide the music. The bottle will be available for sale at the tasting room event.
"After the success of the limited-edition (and quite-sold-out) FEW Spirits Bloodshot's Small Batch Bourbon, Bloodshot Records is thrilled to team up again with FEW Spirits,” says Bloodshot co-founder and owner Rob Miller. "This time we’re classing it up a bit with the Insurgint Gin, which will add a flair to all your ginny mixology exploits. FEW Spirits once again proves that not only are they the mad scientists of distilling, but also awfully good sports.”
Small-batch and local. That’s how we like our music and our gin.
Bloodshot Records Insurgint Gin has a suggested retail price of $49.99.
The Bloodshot collaborations are also not the only musical spirits made by Hletko, a former Chicago musician, guitar effects pedal developer, failed-record-label owner and rock-n-roll obsessive. Insurgint Gin is being released hot on the heels of Brainville Rye Whiskey, FEW’s collaboration with legendary band The Flaming Lips, which is also now hitting shelves nationwide.
