BARRENCE WHITFIELD AND THE SAVAGES PERFORM "HANGMAN'S TOKEN" AT BLOODSHOT HEADQUARTERS

From their 2013 Bloodshot album 'Dig Thy Savage Soul.'

Back in November those legendary Boston garage barons stopped by our humble abode to grace us with their formidable presence and play us a couple songs. What resulted was one of the most memorable work days we've ever had here. Barrence (for reasons unknown) decided to don an Abe Lincoln top hat found in Radio Man Swank's quarters, then picked up a century-old medical book from Bloodshot Rob's office, and treated his performance (through a harmonica microphone) as a 19th century plea for mercy (or a really twisted State of the Union address). Meanwhile, the Savages absolutely shred it up and had us thinking the walls were caving in.

Not seen in the video: Lydia Loveless and her band rehearsing in the basement while all of this is going on in the front room. Needless to say, we didn't get much real "work" done that day.

ROBBIE FULKS AND STEVE ALBINI INTERVIEW EACH OTHER IN CHICAGO READER

Quite the interview we have here. Chicago legends and musical encyclopedias Robbie Fulks and Steve Albini interview EACH OTHER in this Chicago Reader piece.

Fulks and Albini, guitarist of Shellac/Big Black and producer extraordinaire (PIXIES, Iggy And The Stooges, Robert Plant, and you know, a little band called Nirvana), go back a long way. Albini recorded and produced Fulks's classic albums 'Country Love Songs,' '13 Hillbilly Giants,' 'Couples in Trouble,' and his most recent release 'Gone Away Backward.' They are a technically terrifying twosome, we'd say.

LYDIA LOVELESS IS ONE OF SPIN'S BEST NEW ARTISTS OF 2014

Lydia Loveless is featured on the front page of SPIN as a Best New Artist of January 2014!

"Like so many young creatives mining the nooks and crannies of American roots music, it's easy to categorize it as "alt-country" in the sense that it looks to the past as much as the present to craft a sound of the future, but Loveless' emotional honesty and lithe genre-melding are indeed singular."

Amen. And Happy New Year.
