Bobby Bare Jr., Rosie Flores, Alejandro Escovedo Perform at SXSW Lou Reed Tribute Concert

Rosie Flores, Bobby Bare Jr., Alejandro Escovedo, and a slew of other deservedly famous musicians performed at a SXSW Lou Reed Tribute Concert last Friday March 14th 2014. (Yes, Bobby and Rosie ran from their knockout sets at our Yard Dog party to the Lou Reed show and played again.)

Other performers who played songs by the late Velvet Undergroundling included our own Steve Wynn, Chuck Prophet, The Fleshtones, The Black Lips, Sean Lennon, Lucinda Williams, Suzanne Vega, and more.

Read Robbie Fulks's Full SXSW Tour Diary on Gaper's Block

In case you weren't following along, Robbie Fulks wrote a day-by-day tour diary during SXSW for Gaper's Block. As you would expect, it's witty, wry, often cynical, and utterly hilarious.

Robbie tells the tales of his travels, performances, run-ins, opinions on SXSW itself, trips in Bentleys, and the full story of the cat he was pet-sitting in Austin who escaped the house mid-week. There are also appearances in the stories by Jon Langford, Mojo Nixon, Lydia Loveless, and more.

Read 'em all here for your entertainment and education.

Rolling Stone Says Lydia Loveless Is One of the Best Things They Saw at SXSW 2014

Rolling Stone caught Lydia Loveless at the Paste Magazine day party at SXSW last week and said she was one of the best things they saw at the festival!

Read it here.

"...with her eyes closed, her guitars-and-pedal-steel band howling, and her pale face tilted up to the fierce Texas sun...she flashes a Mona Lisa smirk, rewarding herself with a gulp of tequila and a suck of lime."

That lines up pretty well with what we saw too. They must have been standing near us.

Greg Kot and Jim DeRogatis Review Lydia Loveless on NPR's Sound Opinions

In case you missed it, Greg Kot and Jim DeRogatis reviewed Lydia Loveless's new album Somewhere Else on Sound Opinions on NPR/WBEZ this weekend. Greg and Jim both say "Buy it!" and rave about her songwriting, honest charisma, and her cover of Kirsty MacColl's "They Don't Know."

Listen here at 46:00.

Our favorite part is when Jim says "I wanna take every 14 or 15 year-old girl in America and play them this record and say 'the heck with Taylor Swift; this is who your heroine should be!'"
