Bobby Bare Jr., Rosie Flores, Alejandro Escovedo Perform at SXSW Lou Reed Tribute Concert

Rosie Flores, Bobby Bare Jr., Alejandro Escovedo, and a slew of other deservedly famous musicians performed at a SXSW Lou Reed Tribute Concert last Friday March 14th 2014. (Yes, Bobby and Rosie ran from their knockout sets at our Yard Dog party to the Lou Reed show and played again.)

Other performers who played songs by the late Velvet Undergroundling included our own Steve Wynn, Chuck Prophet, The Fleshtones, The Black Lips, Sean Lennon, Lucinda Williams, Suzanne Vega, and more.

Read Robbie Fulks's Full SXSW Tour Diary on Gaper's Block

In case you weren't following along, Robbie Fulks wrote a day-by-day tour diary during SXSW for Gaper's Block. As you would expect, it's witty, wry, often cynical, and utterly hilarious.

Robbie tells the tales of his travels, performances, run-ins, opinions on SXSW itself, trips in Bentleys, and the full story of the cat he was pet-sitting in Austin who escaped the house mid-week. There are also appearances in the stories by Jon Langford, Mojo Nixon, Lydia Loveless, and more.

Read 'em all here for your entertainment and education.

Rolling Stone Says Lydia Loveless Is One of the Best Things They Saw at SXSW 2014

Rolling Stone caught Lydia Loveless at the Paste Magazine day party at SXSW last week and said she was one of the best things they saw at the festival!

Read it here.

"...with her eyes closed, her guitars-and-pedal-steel band howling, and her pale face tilted up to the fierce Texas sun...she flashes a Mona Lisa smirk, rewarding herself with a gulp of tequila and a suck of lime."

That lines up pretty well with what we saw too. They must have been standing near us.

Ha Ha Tonka and Lydia Loveless Included in NPR's SXSW 'Austin 100' Playlist

NPR put together a list of 100 bands to check out at SXSW, and they included Lydia Loveless and Ha Ha Tonka! Whether you're trekking to Austin or not, this downloadable playlist should keep your ears occupied this week.

Listen and download The Austin 100, featuring Lydia's "Really Wanna See You" and HHT's "Colorful Kids" here.

Both artists' SXSW appearances are listed here.

SXSW 2013 Happenings!

SXSW pster

It's that time again:  South by Southwest, Austin TX, March, music, margaritas, corporate sleaze fests trying to out "indie" each other, zombie-like mobs of insensate spring breakers bumping into clutches of jaded industry insiders, "bloggers" sitting on every curb trying to be the first to talk smack about THE NEXT BIG THING and a thousand broken dreams littering 6th Street.  And lots of litter littering 6th Street.

As Mitch Hedberg used to say, handing out fliers on the street is like saying "here, throw this out for me."

Once again, Bloodshot heads down south, shedding layers of flannel along the way and stopping at every plywood sign with the letters B B and Q on them, to bring you parties and showcases and music for your unadulterated enjoyment.

This list will be constantly updated as more parties, appearances times and venue details are confirmed.

We've a got schedule for our shenanigans in Austin at the upcoming SXSW Music Festival.  GO HERE for the latest updates

SXSW 2012 Taking Shape

The South By Southwest Music Festival 2012 in Austin TX on March 15-19th is starting to take shape.

We don't have all the details ironed out yet (oy! It's like herding cats...) but we can tell you a few things for certain and promise to keep you updated.

Our official showcase is Saturday March 17th at Red Eyed Fly

Performing will be JC Brooks & the Uptown Sound, Lydia Loveless, The Waco Brothers w/ Paul Burch, Cory Branan, Maggie Bjorklund, and Kurt--The Deadstring Brother.

In addition to the above folks, we'll have Southeast Engine, Rosie Flores and other surprises.  Also scheduled to be in Austin performing will be Jon Langford's Skull Orchard, Justin Townes Earle and Deano & the Purvs.

Keep an eye peeled for more specifics as we get them.  We'll try and keep you busy and entertained for the weekend.

Music Fog Video from SXSW

We're pretty sure that if you Google any band at SXSW this year for some video, you'll get directed to 1,001 pages of crappy images shot on cell phones by reeling drunk people.  Bad images, worse sound.  Ain't the internet grand?

HOWEVER, the good folks at the site Music Fog had some of our bands over to their shindig at the legendary food and music mecca Threadgill's and producde some QUALITY audio and video.

Check out full performances by EDDIE SPAGHETTI and HA HA TONKA.
