We like to listen to vinyl on Fridays here at BSHQ, and we're starting a new tradition. Each week someone will close his/her eyes, randomly select a record from his/her personal collection, and bring it to the office. The person has to explain why the album is on his/her shelves, and then we listen to the album. We call this 'Random Wax.'
Today's contestant is Bloodshot warehouse wizard Justin Hertner! He randomly selected Lynyrd Skynyrd's Second Helping (much to Rob's chagrin...he's tearing out his hair and covering his ears. Really. This was the soundtrack to his high school tormenters.). Here's his explanation on why it's in his collection.
"Skynyrd was and still is my Dad’s favorite band. When he was working in the garage. Skynyrd was playing. When he was grilling on a Saturday night. Skynyrd was playing. He was also in a bar band that consisted mostly of Skynyrd covers. In my Nu Metal hazed teens, I resented my taste for Lynyrd Skynyrd. Now I love them for all the sweet riffs and memories they bring back. This copy of Second Helping was found at an estate sale for 2 bucks. Set aside nostalgia, the album art alone was a good reason to pick it up."
