It just occurred to us that one year ago today we released While No One Was Looking: Toasting 20 Years of Bloodshot Records. We still CANNOT BELIEVE the friends and heroes (seriously...Mike Watt, Superchunk, Chuck Ragan, etc.!) of ours who came together to record songs from Bloodshot's 20-year history. We filled three vinyl LPs (and we mean FILLED...each side is packed) with spectacular and fascinating versions of Bloodshot classics and deep cuts. If you haven't heard it, fix that. It's available in nearly every format.
We'll always be thankful to the 38 artists who took the time to contribute: Blitzen Trapper, Chris Shiflett (of Foo Fighters), Samantha Crain, Chuck Prophet, Hiss Golden Messenger, Dave Davison (of Maps & Atlases), Ted Leo, Into It. Over It., Split Single, Limbeck, Tim Kasher, Shakey Graves, Ivan & Alyosha, Chuck Ragan, The Minus 5/Scott McCaughey, Carolyn Mark, Daniel Romano, Charlie Parr, The Reverend Peyton's Big Damn Band, Possessed by Paul James, Andrew Bird, Nora O'Connor, Ben Kweller, Frank Turner, Superchunk, Koji, The Great Crusades, Mike Watt, Nicki Bluhm & The Gramblers, Jerry David DeCicca, The Handsome Family, Warm Soda, Reverend James Leg (of Black Diamond Heavies), Two Gallants, Diarrhea Planet, Shinyribs, The NC Music Love Army, Caitlin Cary, Chip Robinson, Kenny Roby, William Elliott Whitmore, and Sam Fogarino (of Interpol).
We started out wanting to release perhaps a couple 7"s featuring artists outside the label covering songs we've released, and the next thing we knew, we had 38 tracks. We rekindled friendships, started new ones, and carried on with many of our musical drinking buddies. All through the common thread of the music we are lucky to share with the world every day.
And thank you to all of you fans and listeners who purchased a double disc or triple LP or 38-track iTunes album. We know it's quite the audio and monetary commitment. It means the world to us.
Put it on the turntable and raise a glass tonight!
(And now our 21 birthday release, Bloodshot Six Pack to Go: Workings Songs for the Drinking Class, featuring more excellent artists, will be out in two weeks!)
