Happy Birthday Elvis, From Bloodshot

The King, Elvis Aaron Presley, was born on this day in 1935. The Memphis Flash would have been 81 today. (Wonder what it would have taken to get him to guest on a Bloodshot compilation. Perhaps he'd be an affable old man just doing what he wants, saying "yes" to bizarre projects and guest appearances. Like the Nicolas Cage of rock-n-roll...but not at all.)

Presley's influence truly permeates the Bloodshot canon. Stylistically, aesthetically, attitudinally. Some Bloodshot artists have been so enamored with The Pelvis that they recorded his songs for their albums. And we were lucky enough to release those.

Here are the three Elvis covers in the official Bloodshot catalog. Everything from lonesome bluegrass to rippin' rockabilly to psyched-out searing surf rock. For the full digest of Bloodshot cover songs, consult our Cover Songs database.

The Meat Purveyors "Burning Love" (from 1998's Sweet in the Pants)

The Sadies "Loved on Look" (from 2001's Tremendous Efforts)
