Here’s to one of the baddest, funniest, crudest, toughest, generous, so bullshitty-it-ain’t-bullshit-anymore-it’s-the-truth, resilient chameleons to ever pick up a microphone or strut into a recording studio.
For over six decades, he’s been called Mr. Rhythm, the Black Godfather, and the original ‘Dre. He’s recorded everywhere with everyone. He’s recorded songs you love and you may not even know it.
He’s been down, he’s been out, he’s been down AND out. He’s played to thousands at festivals in Europe, and to dozens on cold Chicago bridges for spare change.
He is a SURVIVOR.
Let us all tip the ruby red bowlers that metaphorically rest on our wild and weird music-loving heads to a gen-u-ine, one-of-a-kind American musical treasure.
Let us all raise a glass in celebration, shake a tail feather (yeah, he wrote that one), and do a dance that’s sweeping the south, that little thing called the Bacon Fat.
