  • Sad and sometimes melodramatic ballads that sound like Americana music with a British accent.

  • Recalls both the rough-edged passion of England's pub-rock movement and its more crowd-pleasing American equivalent as practiced by such blue-collar poets as Bruce Springsteen.

  • Bell adopts the persona of a lovelorn, socially conscious barfly, crooning tales of romantic and economic despair over his backing band's anthemic pub rock.

Accomplished painter, accordion squeezer, Mekon (widely acknowledged as the suavest member), and currently a resident of the USA. Rico's been around long enough to have seen the Mersey Beat scene (he saw the Beatles when he was 15 at a club in Liverpool! THE BEATLES!!) AND the birth of punk.

Rico, in contrast to the blustering chaos of the Mekons, is decidedly a downtrodden softy. This, coupled with his early love of Woody Guthrie, Bob Dylan and Mississippi Fred McDowell, has resulted in the raggedy soulful roots music that characterizes his solo career.
