NEW ROSIE FLORES STREAMING ON MTV HIVE

The title track of Rosie Flores' new album Working Girl's Guitar is streaming on MTV Hive.

As they say: "Few album-openers more effectively assert the artist’s identity than the title track to Rosie Flores’ new solo album, Working Girl’s Guitar. The song is an up-front, declarative statement of purpose, from its surf-inspired opening riff to Flores’ strong voice belting out the lines, “I’m a working girl’s guitar / playing towns / travel far” — a fair summation of the life of the 61-year-old guitar slinger who sings the words."

Have a listen HERE, and look for the album in stores and on online on October 16th

PopMatters.com Reviews Waco Brothers/Paul Burch Album

In our continuing quest to present fuller and more thoughtfully written music journalism to you, rather than glib tossed off bon mots aimed at the legions of short attention spanned media-consuming blobs so prevalent out there, we present to you THIS lengthy review of the Waco Brothers and Paul Burch collaboration Great Chicago Fire we released this spring.

It's by the good folks (and tasteful music fans) at PopMatters.com.   They run down the album song by song and even post a soundcloud file of the title track.

So have a look.  It'll be more interesting than whatever you are doing at work right now.  Trust us.

Firewater Early Praise

Firewater's International Orange hit the streets last week and, for the first time in 4 years, the band is whipping rooms in the US into sweaty frenzies.

So, we thought we'd take this opportunity to highlight some of the initial press surrounding the record---the interviews, the reviews and lots of video:

-An interview with Tod A and an embedded video of a live in the studio KEXP performance in Salt Lake City's City Weekly

-Interview with Tod A on the making of the record and traveling the world in Austin's The Horn

-Interview with Tod in Examiner.com on leaving NYC and immersing himself in world music and the differences in living abroad

-Excellent reviews in the Vancouver Weekly ---how many times do BS records get called slinky and sexy--Blurt, and Examiner.com

So sit back, relax---or chillax, as I'm told the kids are saying---and catch up on what all the hub-bub is about.

Cordero back on the road; Collaborating with Os Mutantes

CORDERO, Brooklyn's favorite bilingual indie rock dance band, will appear on a US midwestern tour beginning October 3rd with a free concert at Chicago's Old Town School of Folk beginning at 8:30pm--featuring two sets of Cordero, and an ongoing Obama presidential debate drinking game. Cordero will be debuting songs from an upcoming collaboration album with Os Mutantes leader Sergio Dias, the beloved 1960's psychedelic rock icon, which re-imagines the great classic protest songs and love songs of Latin American history.

Ani Cordero has the new honor of playing drums for the legendary band Os Mutantes, "The Brazilian Beatles," appearing as their drummer, on a to-be-announced tour.

Cordero will be touring with a new more complex musical line-up this fall, which features accordion from Will Holhouser of Antony and the Johnsons, Omar Akil Little of Lee "Scratch" Perry's band, and others.

Rosie Flores on NPR's Weekend Edition discussing Janis Martin

ROSIE FLORES will discuss the late rockabilly legend JANIS MARTIN and Janis' just-released final album The Blanco Sessions on NPR's Weekend Edition with host Rachel Martin this Sunday, September 30 at 9:45 a.m eastern time

IT'S ARCHIVED HERE

Janis Martin was one of the few female recording artists working in the male-dominated rockabilly field in the 1950s. Nicknamed "the female Elvis" for her dance moves, the Sutherland, Va. native, born in 1940, recorded a number of singles for RCA Victor and Pallette from 1956 to 1961. Her first single, "Will You Willyum" b/w "Drugstore Rock n Roll" (covered by Rosie on her upcoming album Working Girl's Guitar), sold more than 750,000 copies, landing her national TV appearances. In 1960, her husband demanded she leave music. But she returned in the '70s, and in 1995 made a guest appearance on Rosie Flores' Rockabilly Filly album.

It's here that the saga of Janis Martin's farewell album, The Blanco Sessions, began. The Blanco Sessions, produced by Flores and Bobby Trimble, was released on Cow Island Music on September 18, 2012.
