Although the band wears its influences with pride, and "STOMP" features 5 road-tested covers of songs by The Wailers, Janis Martin, The Cramps and other favorites, The Dyes approach these oldies with an irreverence and vigor that is anything but retro.
CHICAGO FEMALE-FRONTED, ROCKABILLY/GARAGE TRIO.
Features former BS-intern extraordinaire Jill E. Bean on bass!
Recorded 90% live at the (now-defunct) studio The Workshop Jones, "STOMP" captures the raw energy that sets The Dyes' live performances apart from a mere nostalgia act. Although the band wears its influences with pride, and "STOMP" features 5 road-tested covers of songs by The Wailers, Janis Martin, The Cramps and other favorites, The Dyes approach these oldies with an irreverence and vigor that is anything but retro.
Lead singer and guitarist Lisa Louise's original compositions evoke a similarly restless attitude, rejecting everything from unfaithful men to the draining hustle of a 9 to 5 job. These sentiments are echoed by the unhinged drumming of Charlie Crane and earth-shaking bass of Jill E. Bean, forging the band's unmistakable sound. From the opening roar of the souped-up Cadillac hearse on the title track to their frantic race through Ronnie Dawson's existential rock and roll anthem "Rockin' Bones," the 14 tracks of STOMP are an ideal antidote to the overly tame and polished sounds of the mainstream nostalgia factory.
