Why, oh WHY, did it take us so long to think of this?
Perhaps we HAVE thought of it before, but we've always had so much fun at Wacos shows we never remember what a great idea it is.
So, after long last, we bring you a stainless steel hip flask with the Waco Brothers FREEDOM AND WEEP logo etched into the face. Now you'll never be in the embarrassing and potentially dangerous situation of being far away from
your....um......medicine.
We've only made 240, so act fast.
Wacos and a flask! They go together like green eggs and ham, like Abbot and Costello, like Halliburton and malfeasance, like the Captain and Tennille.
Thu Apr 19 '07 12:28 pmDeano Goes Into the Wine Business!
Straight from the man himself:
After much sweat, some swearing, and a little luck, Dean (you might know me from the Waco Brothers) and Steve are proud to announce the opening of the Cellar Rat Wine Shop. See the announcement below for all the info. Here are the important details:
Opening THIS SATURDAY, April 21st, 10am to 7pm!
1811 W. North Ave. Chicago, Illinois USA (773)489-2 RAT (489-2728)
Corporate Wine Still Sucks
The Skinny:
Cellar Rat is a new Wicker Park/Bucktown wine shop dedicated to providing the neighborhood an alternative to the factory made wines sold at grocery stores, markets and big box stores. Our selection is focused on small, family owned wineries using natural and traditional techniques. These wines, often priced the same or less than their mass produced counterparts, offer truly distinct flavor and character. Wine should be a fun part of everyday life- not a discipline for snobs. We want our store to be friendly, full of humor and great music. There will be organized tastings and events, of course, but any time you drop in, there will be an interesting bottle for you to try. In short, our
mission is to sell you great, authentic wine at a fair price and for all of us to enjoy ourselves in the process!
Some words from Dean:
I have worked in the retail wine trade in Chicago since 1990, most of that time as a buyer for two of Chicago's largest retailers. These positions have taken me to cellars of all the great wine producing regions of France as well as Italy, Australia, California and Oregon. In this time, I've tried to focus on listening to what the customer REALLY wants, then doing my best to put a bottle in their hands that will make them happiest. While I have the knowledge and experience to sell the most expensive wines, I get the most joy from finding great wines at prices people can afford. I sincerely hope I can become your
neighborhood "wine guy"!
Cheers!

Bloodshot is honored to be included in the Chicago History Museum's "Chicago Roots Music" Exhibit, and to be featured (along with the Waco Brothers) in the upcoming episode of the PBS series American Roots Music, which will cover the exhibit and the history of Chicago folk, blues, gospel and country music. The Chicago History Museum describes the event:
"For more than a hundred years, 'Sweet Home Chicago' has been one of the music capitals of the world. Chicago is best known as a blues town, but the music doesn't end there. Chicago Roots Music explores the city’s ties to many different musical genres, from the well-known jazz, blues, and gospel styles that migrated here from the South to the folk music and country sounds enjoying a revival today.
The exhibition opens Saturday, November 11th, and the Chicago History Museum is located at 1601 N. Clark St. For more information, visit the exhibition's official site here. The documentary will be broadcast in the Chicago area on Thursday, November 16th on WTTW Ch. 11 at 9pm.
For more information about the PBS series and to find your local listings for the American Roots Music: Chicago documentary, visit the American Roots Music site here. The program features pioneers such as Louis Armstrong, Mahalia Jackson, Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf, John Prine, The Staple Singers among many many others. Jon Langford is featured in an interview, as well as appearing in a performance by the Waco Brothers.

Mon Sep 18 '06 08:18 amThe Wacos and Real Sex
Wanna get down and dirty with the Waco Brothers? October 7th you'll get your opportunity--sort of--on HBO's REAL SEX television show. What fine Waco Brothers song will provide the soundtrack to the decadence and deviance, you might ask? Why, that would be "Geronimo" off their debut album, ...To The Last Dead Cowboy, so saddle up and ride (in whatever way you may choose, we over at BSHQ don't judge) while the Wacos provide the soundtrack to the ribald proceedings!

Wed Jun 15 '05 12:55 pmSpringsteen listens to Wacos...
From a fan...
"Read that Bruce Springsteen has been playing Waco's on his warm up tape for his recent tour. It was mentioned in an interview in Uncut mag this month. Time for some "As Heard on..." stickers."
If you can find this article, please email it to bshq @ bloodshotrecords.com. Thanks.
On July 27th, another fan wrote:
"As a Springsteen fanatic who tries to read everything Springsteen (and as a Waco Brothers fan) I regret to say that the above report is in error. There was no interview in Uncut.
However there might be some other Bloodshot artists in Springsteen's pre-show (aka "walk-in") music, which can be found here: www.brucespringsteen.net/live/walkinmusic.html
