Bloodshot DJ Rob's Spooktacular

As you may or may not know, our Dear Leader, Kim Il Rob has a weekly radio show in SW Michigan.  October 30th will be his 2 hour special Halloween edition, with all kinds of odd ball music about zombies and witches and goo goo mucks, from the Cramps to Screamin' Jay Hawkins to a load of folks you've never heard of and will never hear from again.

"Miller's Cave" on WRHC 106.7 fm in Three Oaks, Michigan.   4-6pm Eastern Time, and replayed 2-4pm Eastern on Mondays. Or listen ONLINE HERE

The perfect soundtrack for putting on your zombie make up, figuring out how to perfect your Chilean miner outfit or screaming at your 10 year old daughter that there's NO WAY yer letting her go dressed as a trampy Hannah Montana...

Trailer Bride album back in da house!

As we've mentioned before over the years, many distribution warehouses are like the one in the closing scene of Raiders of the Lost Ark--vast labyrinths with boxes stacked to the rafters.  Things go missing.  Things get found.  The cycle continues.

Recently delivered unto our office was a VERY limited amount of the Trailer Bride album Whine de Lune that's been unavailable for a few years.

We love this record and although its available digitally, we're happy to offer it up the CD while they last for only $8.95.  But act fast!

"Give me the hard-bitten moxie of Polly Harvey and the slow-burning twang of Lucinda Williams, and three guys to stand up straight. That's Trailer Bride." —Seattle Weekly

Speaking of Trailer Bride, since it's Halloween , HERE'S a FREEBIE track from their debut album called "Graveyard" that fits the mood of the season

I'm Not Jim, a collaboration between Silo's frontman Walter Salas-Humara and acclaimed NY novelist Jonathan Lethem, also honor baseball in their song "The Pitchers Gave Up."

Ben Weaver Playlist on Mog Music Network

From time to time, the blog Mog Music Network asks its favorite artists to create personally curated playlists for our curiosity-satisfying- and audio-streaming pleasure. Themes and styles will vary, but you’ll always know your favorite bands just a little better after listening.

Recently, they asked Ben Weaver to have a go at it and he's served up a nifty audio sampler from Gil Scott-Heron to the Gun Club to Vic Chesnutt.

In the current Time Out Chicago, Jon Langford discusses his new album Old Devils, actual old devils like Kingsley Amis and Andre Williams and why his bass player is allowed to ride mechanical bulls in bars, but not his guitar player.

BS Staffers pick their Classic Rock Faves!

In our ongoing attempts to answer the persistent questions: "who the hell works at Bloodshot and what is wrong with them? " we occasionally quiz the staff in the hopes of shedding light on what makes us tick. Perhaps, knowing us better, you will be more forgiving of our foibles, or even grow to feel something bordering on fondness for us.

So, we asked the hard working office monkeys here to name their favorite songs by a few CLASSIC ROCK artists that randomly popped into our heads. THEN, we asked them to name a Wildcard Song, something very much out of character, or a song by someone they otherwise dislike or dismiss, but when it comes on the radio, they can't help but rock out.

Go HERE for the results.  Laugh at their choices, or nod in agreement...

We also suggest you go HERE to sample a new playlist I put together featuring 30+ of our fave rock and punk covers done by Bloodshot artists. Enjoy!

Some Killer Early Ben Weaver Media Attention

Perhaps you've heard us rail about it before, but the Interweb has made it possible for a lot of BAD writing to be seen by a lot of people on equal footing with GOOD writing.  Thus, we're always giddy to see some thoughtful, interesting and, dare we say, informed critical responses to our releases, and endeavor to pass them along--and Ben Weaver's new record seems to have the scribes sharpening their pencils and putting some thought into their reviews.

From the Minneapolis City Pages is a lovely review and conversation with Ben about food, music, nature and how they relate to his creative process:

"Pure pastoral, a melodic and meditative acoustic collection that finds his gravelly, Tom-Waits-indebted croak now complemented by a heretofore hidden and lovely upper register on tracks like the album-opening "Grass Doe."  Deftly mixing confessional balladry ("Drag the Hills") with acute  character sketches ("City Girl") and impressionistic nature journal  jottings ("The Rooster's Wife"), it's a new high-water mark."   Read it all HERE.

Then there's the NPR station KCMP's webstream of an in studio performance. Listen to it HERE.

And the kicker...from the blog Minnpost.com, HERE'S a review that is rather effusive in its praise....even if we sheepishly agree.

"The temptation here is to compare it to Springsteen’s “Nebraska” or any of Greg Brown’s similarly stark beauties. But a more apt reference is Dylan’s “Blood on the Tracks,” that epic break-up record that sounds fussy in comparison."

The new album is available on Tuesday, but you can pre-order now and get a free hand drawn hang tag from Ben, as well as our 2010 edition PROMO SAMPLER.
