After a brief and bizarre stop in the no-man's land of major label short-sightedness and compulsive merging, this train ported again at your favorite station, and it's headed for Hitsville, baby. So fasten your seatbelts: we may take a turn through some dark and unfamiliar territory along the way, but you know what the late Dr. Freud said about trains and tunnels...
Don’t let the title fool you, though (we all know what a smart-ass Robbie can be), this is all new or unreleased material!!! Some of it is old, some of it is new, some of it is borrowed, and some of it is blue (if you know what I mean). There’s some brand new stuff (recorded with Steve Albini), a demo or two, a couple of live cuts, some soundtrack weirdness, a couple of things left off his first two Bloodshot CDs, and a killer duet with Kelly Willis. All in all, it’s a Fulk-narian delight full of old school honky-tonk grooves, hum along roots/pop finger-snappers, bluegrass foot stomps, and some genuinely hi-larious novelties. This CD pulls out all the musical stops and hits the station with enough bluster and steam to fog your glasses and mess up your 'do.
Features appearances from most of Robbie's favorite co-horts including The Skeletons and Special Consensus, and some homey cover art by Chicago's own country music cartoonist, Heather McAdams.
Worth the price of admission for Robbie's liner notes ALONE!!!
"Robbie Fulks is having more wise-ass fun than anyone in American music these days... and his ability to craft fresh, offhand arrangements gives punch to his endlessly clever lyrics." Michael McCall, Pulse
"Rarely has there been a record in music history that is so sure of itself, and so careless about what people might think of it. Mainstream success may still not come to Fulks, but it wouldn't be for want of good, truly original work." Lee Chung Horn, Big O Magazine
"With genuine bluegrass, thumping honky-tonk, and sunny pop, it is high-spirited affection, not dreary reverence to tradition that sets the tone on this disc. Robbie Fulks is one rare, delightful dude." Jon Young, Request
