Tempe, AZ's favorite sons come forth with their 3rd CD for Bloodshot. Once again, their near perfect melding of country and rock (but not country rock, dammit) will get moneymakers shakin' from Bakersfield to Seattle.
How can one not love the classic honky-tonk stylings in the vein of Buck Owens and Lefty Frizzell butting against the chutzpah of indie-rock luminaries like Green on Red and the Long Ryders? Toss in a guitar player who threads a line between Johnny Cash's Luther Perkins and the Replacements' Bob Stinson, and a pedal steel player renowned far and wide for his swashbuckling style, and, brother, you're in high heaven.
"If the Meat Puppets and the Flatlanders had a bastard love child their offspring would be the Grievous Angels." Michael Powell, Ft Worth Weekly
"Fans of the Old 97's and Slobberbone's fiery brand of country-rock bludgeonings should give this disc a try." Malcolm Mayhew, Ft Worth Star-Telegram
